Taboo Crossings
A short poem inspired by the Wild Woman 'Kimono-coat' I illustrated whilst dreaming lakeside in Finland. The piece interweaves a story of finding one-self on a journey that has many crossings, but not all are as they seem.
Haunting the imagination,
So many selves have no soul,
Leaving no trace,
Femininity is not defined,
Out on a limb,
Carving out a tactile approach,
It feels far standing here,
Out of the blue,
Take a ride,
Mapping a void,
Within and without,
Sun goes down,
Crossing borders,
Strange things slip back and forth,
Held back by fear,
Perfectionism is a shortcoming of mine,
Taboo is the revolution,
This must be “good enough”,
Blowing in the wind,
Imagine a catwalk,
A reflection of your values,
Your mirror,
Change is slow,
My heart wants electric,
The most effective ritual,
For a survivor,
Worthy of intimate expressions.
